A Brief History

LEADING EDGE Bakery and Food Service Journal was first Published in June 1996. From it's humble beginnings it is now the largest circulated magazine in the bakery industry across Australia and New Zealand.

Sent initially as a marketing concept to readers free of charge, annual subscription fees to LEADING EDGE were introduced and the number of subscribers has risen substantially since, with all market segments represented.

Since its inception LEADING EDGE has established strategic alliances with the Associations, TAFE colleges, Universities and Research Centres of the industry. During this time the number of advertisers has increased substantially and LEADING EDGE continues to develop relationships with small and large advertisers who see the publication as the vehicle to reach their target market. Some of LEADING EDGE’s major clients include Moffat P/L, Robot Coupe, OBS, Mondial Forni, Silverwater, Unilever, Pearless, Delifrance, Nestle, Cadbury, Bakery Sugarcraft, just to mention a few.

Two major contributing factors to the success of LEADING EDGE are the ongoing development of arguably the largest database in this industry, and the establishment of the LEADING EDGE Website which doubled and quadrupled the number of hits in it's first successive months since it's inception.

LEADING EDGE is proud to be a sponsor of major bakery events in Australia such as Bake Skills, The Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition, iba, NZ Baking Conference (Aust.), Bake Your Way to Success (Aust.), Fine Food Australia and the LA Judge Awards.

LEADING EDGE has also further increased market awareness by exhibiting at Melbourne Foodservice, Fine Food in Sydney, the World Food Congress in Sydney, The Catering Trade Fair in Queensland and the Hospitality and Catering Exhibition in South Australia. This has augmented our strong profile and market position.

The LEADING EDGE Sales, Production and Editorial team all have previous first-hand and managerial experience within the Foodservice industry before turning their talents to the publication of the magazine.

Paul Norris, as National Sales and Marketing Manager, brings to LEADING EDGE a remarkably creative approach to marketing and promotions borne of his background in communications, journalism, customer service, business administration and marketing. With a business/arts degree in marketing and a masters degree in communications , Paul has a unique talent with people and media. He's been a specialist writer for CareerOne in "The Weekend Australian" for four years as well  a communications lecturer and tutor at two of Melbourne's major universities and also previously worked in customer service and administration the banking and finance sector.

Hani H. Ghaly provides a rich source of intelligent and creative ideas to LEADING EDGE and is dedicated to constantly lifting the standard of articles, advertisements and production values.  As Art Director & Webmaster, Hani manages network administration & information technology and has a varied background encompassing digital engineering, low-level machine coding, and web site development.

David Smith, in his position as Business Development Manager, an integral part of the day-to-day running of our business. With his administration background provides a fresh and alternate perspective to our business and the industry as a whole, and with his ongoing commitment to developing both the publication and our team is a highly valued member.
