NEWS UPDATE

 

Welcome back to another issue of LEADING EDGE

Bakery & Food Service Journal

We are excited about being involved in sending a team to take on Europe again and build on our fantastic second placing in 2009 and third placing in 2010 at the SIGEP Bread Cup to be held in Rimini, Italy at the SIGEP Expo. See inside for details of the 2011 team to take on the Europeans.

This is an exciting time for Australian Industry players to have these opportunities come up to compete on the world stage and adds a new dimension to the standard of baking in this country.

The team has already been practicing and are looking forward to representing their country. The SIGEP Expo is a wonderful showcase for Artisans’ rather than large plant outlets and if you have the opportunity it would be worthwhile visiting the Expo, the Australian Team would appreciate the extra support you would provide by being there. In this issue we feature FINE FOOD AUSTRALIA 2010, this annual event is held in Melbourne this year. There is a wide variety of exhibits and mini events happening at the show. Firstly there are the Official Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition, and the Apprentice Team Baking Competition, Bakeskills. Then there are all the speciality precincts such as Bakery World, Hospitality, Catering, Dairy World, Confectionery World and many others.

Bakery Australia was a great success at FSA Expo. The Australian Artisan Baking Cup™ was the highlight and has achieved more than we had hoped for. Interest has certainly been generated from Europe about our competition with Italian Master Baker and founding member of Club Arti e Mestieri, Mauro Alboni being our guest International Judge. Full report on this year’s competition is featured in this issue of the magazine.

Thank you to all the Competitors, Judges, all those who helped out, and a big thank you to all the Sponsors and supporters of the events and dinner.

Welcome to the 78th edition of 'Leading Edge' Bakery & Food Service Journal.

What a fantastic show FSA presented in Sydney. It was great catching up with many of the exhibitors and attendees of the show. Once again the Australian Artisan Baking Cup and the National Baking competition were a huge success. In the Artisan Baking Cup, it was magnificent to have our esteemed overseas guests and have them participate in the competition. We are currently working to make the competitions even greater and more significant next year.

We are now all getting ready for Fine Food in Melbourne, and the buzz around the exhibition is amazing.  Straight after the show I am heading to Las Vegas, to experience the “Louis Lesaffre Cup” baking competition. I will try to convey the enormity of this competition, in our October issue, so keep an eye out for it.
